Translation of the German original into Assamese

The discovery of tea in Assam during British rule had a great impact on the socio-economic life of the Assamese people. Although the tea planters were predominantly British, a few other Europeans also worked in some tea platations across Assam. Oscar Flex, a German, was one of them. Flex came to Assam in 1864 to work as an Assistant Manager in a tea estate and rose to become a Manager, a top rank in the tea estate hierarchy. During his stay he obeserved the life of Assamese people minutely and impartially and noted down the experiences which he published as a book in the year 1873 in Berlin, Germany. This rare book was translated 139 years later into Assamese by Salim M. Ali. In 2013 Jivraj Burman translated the Assamese version into English. The book is a valuble reference for historians, social scientists and it could even be enjoyed as a stunning novel. It was featured in two major newspapers:
